An Introduction to collecting 'Laurel & Hardy' on DVD from the USA and UK
Welcome to our Laurel & Hardy DVD pages where we direct you to the best Laurel and Hardy titles that are available from Britain and the USA. As you know we offer the largest range of Laurel and Hardy merchandise from around the globe, most of which you can only obtain from us.
But in the case of Laurel and Hardy DVD's (ONLY) we have decided NOT to sell these ourselves over the Internet, but instead direct you to the best place to purchase at a reasonable price. However, we will continue to offer Laurel & Hardy DVD's on our sales stall along with special imports from around the world.
The amazon links we will direct you to our special DVD pages , these are linked to the respective amazon sites that will ship to anywhere, but we do suggest you scroll down all of this page and read the information about regional codes and multi-region DVD players. I know USA ( and overseas) would love to get our 21 DVD box set, on the other hand there are some USA DVD's that British collectors would like to obtain...so read on!
As our web site can be viewed around the globe, we understand that some of you may not understand that DVD's are regional coded, plus there are different TV systems. However, most domestic and indeed PC DVD players can be changed to Multi Region with a simple handset. These hacks can be found on the Internet, usually searching google with the make and model of your DVD player and the word HACK. Most modern Television sets can also cope with the different playback formats. Just set your DVD player to output via a scart in RGB Mode. In fact for the best picture anyway, you should have it set to RGB mode.
It is very common over here in England to own a multi region DVD player. I just purchased an off the shelf DVD RECORDER for 79 POUNDS from a supermarket. To my surprise it was a multi region player.
My main enquires come from Laurel and Hardy fans in the USA. They ask:
Will the British 21 DVD BOX set be released in the USA , if so when?
The copyrights of Laurel & Hardy are complicated. In Europe the Germans own the rights to the silents, sound shorts and Roach features. Also Universal in England only hold the rights over here and has nothing to do with Laurel and Hardy in the USA.
In the USA the Hal Roach Studios own the Laurel and Hardy silents (REGION ONE + REGION ZERO DVDS ) while Hallmark owns the sound shorts and Roach features.Hallmark have only put out TWO DVD's WAY OUT WEST/ THE SONS OF THE DESERT with some shorts on them. So you will not see our sets stateside.
Here is a little tip...get yourself multi standard DVD and TV equipment and buy the set from the link below ,as they have an offer on that even we can't beat due to their bulk buying power. Many USA (+overseas) fans have done this already, amazon even take off our 17.5% TAX of it making it even cheaper.
We are on the EUROPEAN PAL 625 line picture (REGION 2) system, you are on the USA NTSC 525 REGION 1 system. So our DVDS will not play in the USA, unless you have a multi region DVD player and a PAL capable TV( most TV can take the Pal signal if you set the output of your DVD player to RGB mode.
YOU CAN BUY A MULTI REGION PLAYER for as little as $36.79!
Just follow the link below and you will see a full selection of players. Purchase a player from amazon.com then return to us and follow our links for the box set on amazon.co.uk . OH the good news is that is you purchase anything from ANY amazon site, you use the same email address and password as amazon will already have your details via what ever site you first purchased from .

What Are Regional Codes
DVD discs contain Regional Codes which can be used to prevent the playback of certain discs depending upon the geographical area it is played in. The various studios and home video companies lobbied to make sure this coding system was a required part of the current DVD standards, because they wish to control how their DVD titles are exported to other countries. (For example, while a recent film may already have played theatrically in the United States and been released to the home video market, that same film may not yet have opened in some European or Asian countries.) In most instances, discs manufactured in one region will usually only play on players that were manufactured in that same region - this means that discs bought or imported from England will not play on U.S. players, and vice versa. However, the regional coding system is entirely optional, and discs without Regional Codes will play on any player in any country. But, it soon became apparent that the region codes were bypassed by simple handset hacks or multi region players.
